The Arts and Culture Come in Support of the Sea and Its Beauty
The arts and the sea. A combination which has always inspired Acqua dell'Elba, a place where the Elban perfume manufacturing company finds its roots and motivates its choices.
Two elements which come together inside the Sea Essence International Festival, reciprocally enriching and developing each other.
Thus, the third and last evening of SEIF is dedicated to the arts, literature, music and culture in general, viewed as privileged elements coming in support of the culture of the sea.
Indeed, in the current scenario where saving the planet from pollution and climate change is truly becoming a global emergency, the arts and artists themselves are increasingly directing their efforts towards raising awareness and broadcasting knowledge of the critical damage the environment is suffering.
To mention some of them, Alison McDonald is an Australian artist using recycled plastic to create revolutionary works of art and innovative exhibitions based on her knowledge of engineering. Amongst her most famous works, for example, is a globe of a thousand colours, formed by hundreds of recycled plastic bottle caps from all over the world; the Indian artist Arun Kumar, who realised the sculpture "Droppings and the Dam" using over 70,000 recycled plastic bottle caps, moved by the objective of raising awareness and contrasting the "disposable" lifestyle we enjoy nowadays; yet another artist and photographer who is particularly sensitive to this topic is the Chinese-Canadian Benjamin Von Wong. Amongst his latest works, a photographic exhibition titled "Sirens Hate Plastic": using over 10,000 plastic bottles, Benjamin created what is effectively a reflection through images, focusing on the topic some sirens who find it extremely difficult to swim in an ocean full of plastic.
Moreover, last year SEIF was proud to involve the revolutionary artist Pablo Massa, who created the work "The Neptune of Massa" specifically for the occasion, using material from any type of waste found on the beaches of Elba during the cleaning operations led by the volunteers of Vele Spiegate and Legambiente.
These are just some examples of what we mean by "arts coming in support of the sea", a strong connection which shall once again at this year's Sea Essence International Festival be celebrated and narrated through various moments and personalities we will reveal soon.
