SEIF 2019, A SECOND EDITION FULL OF NOVELTIES COMMEMORATING THE BEAUTY OF THE SEA

Last Friday the 24th of May, framed by the wonderful setting of the Enfola in Portoferraio, the headquarters of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park hosted the first press conference presenting the second edition of the Sea Essence International Festival. Attending at the speakers' table: Fabio Murzi, President of Acqua dell'Elba, the company promoting the event, Norman La Rocca, Marketing Director at Acqua dell'Elba, the Park Director Maurizio Burlando and Umberto Mazzantini, National Head of the Minor Islands department at Legambiente.

A press conference that was held with the primary aim of announcing the novelties of this 2019 edition, alongside the general schedule of the event.

In particular, the President, Fabio Murzi, revealed a first, important news item in front of the journalists: SEIF 2019 will be preceded by two "preview" events.

The first, taking place on the 29th of May at the Accademia del Bello ("Academy of Beauty") in Poggio, will dwell upon the topic of the sea and the exaltation of its beauty through the arts and literature - its title will be "The Words of the Sea and those of Man: a Dialogue on Raffaello Brignetti Between the architect Paolo Ferruzzi and the poet Manrico Murzi".

The second, titled "#Elba2035", will instead take place on the 7th of June at the headquarters of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park, and its main topic will be Isola d'Elba in 2035. A shared reflection involving all of the main economic, social and administrative stakeholders of the island, revolving around how they envisage and intend the future of Elba in 15 years' time. From the point of view of safeguarding the sea, as well as in a broader sense, concentrating on issues relating to the environment, the economy and society in general.

'Today's most important challenge is managing change', explained the President of Acqua dell'Elba, 'and we experience this directly as a company, every day.', Fabio Murzi continued. 'For us, a family company, it is natural to reflect upon medium or long-term scenarios and to act accordingly; thus, we feel a strong need to invite the entire "Elba" system to ask itself how we could be, and what we could do, in the next 15 years to lead the change in the right direction'.

Yet another of the announced novelties was the direct involvement of Legambiente in the role of co-host of the SEIF evenings, leading the workshop "Plastic Free Islands: from Plastic Islands to Islands without Plastic. - Presentation of a Statement of Intentions for An Isola d'Elba Without Plastic"; of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park curating the workshop "Parks and Protected Marine Areas: Networking to Build Shared Strategies for Safeguarding (the Environment). The Case of the International Cetacean Sanctuary"; of IULM University, coordinating the evening "cine/seɪf/ - A Sea to be Loved. Passion and the Sea in Cinema. All of the Cinematic Masterpieces that Made Us Fall in Love with Sea"; and lastly of the Arts Academy of Brera, presenting an arts exhibition to run concurrently with the Festival, curated by a group of young artists and students of the course in Visual Arts and Curatorial Practices, on the topic of respecting and safeguarding our surroundings.

Finally, here's the greatest novelty of this year's edition: SEIF will end with music, in particular dancing to the tunes of the famous musician Nick the Nightlfy and his quintet, who will enliven the evening of the 30th of June with a concert starting at 21:00.
